The Austrian government has unveiled a package for the financially disadvantaged to benefit families with children. Here’s what you need to know.
In recent months, various crises have affected people: From the Corona crisis to the consequences of the Russian war of aggression on Ukraine to the energy crisis and the resulting high inflation worldwide.
With three anti-inflation packages totaling 40 billion euros, the federal government has launched a wealth of inflation-curbing support in many areas; milestones include the abolition of cold progression and the valorization of family and social benefits since 1.1.2023.
Families and especially single parents are most affected by inflation. In addition to the support measures already implemented, the government is now putting together a comprehensive package of measures to benefit families with children specifically.
Given the high purchasing power, the support benefits are not to be distributed with a watering can but rather reach those families who need this help in an unbureaucratic, accurate, and targeted manner. The package of measures for families includes the following:
- For families with children, 60 euros per month per child will be paid out automatically and without application until the end of 2024 if unemployment benefits, emergency assistance, social assistance, or compensatory allowance is received.
- For single parents with children, 60 euros per child will be paid automatically and without application until the end of 2024, provided that the gross monthly income limit of 2,000 euros is not exceeded.
- With weiterlernen.at, the BMBWF has been providing an effective measure since 2021 to give socially disadvantaged children and young people access to free learning assistance from NGOs and student teachers. A total of 10 million euros will be made available for the increase.
